Frequently Asked Questions

Many people have trouble with Disability Insurance Claims and rightfully so, as they are complicated and hard to understand. Here is some information that you may not have known.

Question:Are the forms that I need easy to complete?
Answer:

On the surface, they look easy. However, the disabled insured doesn't know the "language" of claims and therefore, the cards may be stacked against that person from the beginning!

Question:Do I have a specific time frame in which to file?
Answer:

Yes, there are specific time frames involved in every claim.

Question:Can my personal physician treat me for a total disability or do I have to use a physician specified by the company?
Answer:

Yes, under most circumstances, your personal physician is fine. However, you must know the rules!

Question:Once I begin receiving monthly benefits, what am I required to do?
Answer:

Depending on the type of disability (total or residual), there are continuing medical and/or financial requirements to submit on a periodic basis!

Question:Will the insurance company use video surveillance to try and prove I'm not disabled?
Answer:

Video surveillance is one of several investigative tools used, especially when the company feels there is little objective evidence of a serious disability!

Question:What else can the insurance company do?
Answer:

They have several investigative tools to use including specifically trained accountants & CPA's to financially evaluate your claim including: Independent Medical Examinations to test the validity of your treatment, Functional Capacity Evaluations to test your degree of disability and Personal Interviews to probe deeply into your life.
